Filament Display

Item

My Filament Display project is a simple plate that spools of filament sit in holding them in place keeping them from rolling and holding them in place. They are also modular and connect together in a line so you can print as many as you need and connect them all by snapping them in place.

An interconnected set of displays in my room holding my spools.

A single unit showing the modularity on each side where others snap in.

Development

I developed the model for this filament display in Fusion 360. It originally was planned to be a tower that could hold 2 spools max on a cylindrical rod that slid into place. This was a good idea but the big issue was to do this it was going to use a ton of filament and take many hours to print for every two spools I wanted to secure. I went back to the drawing board and eventually came up with a small and simple plate-like design that spools simply sit in. It allows for easy modularity based on however many you need, prints in just an hour and a half, and uses a small amount of filament. I later updated the design to also have a lofted version that allows you to stack a second display on top of the first and create another chain but higher up. This can be seen in the embedded Fusion design on this page.
